DESIGNER MESSAGE

"'How does something possess a sense of the outdoors and also have elegance?' In designing ALFRESCO I started with this question. I remembered the backyard barbecues and kids' outdoor birthday parties from when I lived in the UK, and imagined tableware that would be comfortable to use and perfect in those scenes. I find it appealing that outdoor products are functional and yet have somewhat of a blunt expression. So in designing ALFRESCO, I sought functionality while being conscious not to overdecorate. Thinking about outdoor usage, I designed the outside surface of the tableware with standing edges so that they are easy to grip. I also gave consideration to stackability and compact storage. The spoon and fork stack nicely too, and I hope people can experience that. The plates and bowls have a solid, rough look on the outside. In contrast, the inside where food will be placed is made soft and smooth. This transition of hard and soft with the outside and inside surfaces is possible because of the characteristic of the plastic material. Each item is designed so that you can scoop food smoothly and washing is easy after eating. The bamboo fiber also helps to create a nice matte texture. I especially like the items in black color which reminds you of stone slates.

The transparent colored items are designed for enjoying wine and beer outdoors. To make a versatile wine glass, I based the shape on a goblet with short, stable legs rather than a delicate wine glass. The glass is made of transparent resin so that it can be used caually outdoors, but I wanted to give it an air of luxury and elegance by bringing out the features of this material. In addition to the varying thickness of the transparent material, the gently processed edges create a profound impression. We also paid close attention to the comfort of use and functionalities such as stackability. I hope that you experience and enjoy the products."
